Leadershift

First of all, who did I think I was signing up for this session – haha.

12 weeks, 1 book, 1 session per week, 12 chapters, 1 participant guide.

It seemed simple enough, read a chapter a week, answer some questions on a participant guide, hop on a zoom call with people I never met before (or so I thought) and discuss my experience in the context of what we were reading.

But there was nothing simple about what happened, each chapter enticed me to dig deeper, prompting me to look in the mirror and analyze what was going on behind the person who was looking right back at me. Every shift led to the discovery of potential I didn’t even know I had. All of it was basically under 2 simple principles: (1) leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less, and (2) add value to people.

I guess that’s the part that I’m evolving through now, adding value to people. This is the part that forces me to actually come to terms with one very real fact – it’s not about me –

I’ve learned that walking into a room full of other experts or giving a presentation or even having a meeting with different people is not about me, I use to worry about what I wore or what was on the slides, now, I have to literally write on my planner, paper or folder – it’s not about you, you’re there to add value to people, get over yourself-

A lot of the shifts that the author talks about are all very practical and inspiring, but one shift that he says is the most natural – Career to Calling – made me take a step back for a minute because it’s the one shift that is also the most life altering, I mean think about it, if we all did what we were called to do, there wouldn’t be any room for comparing or being complacent, we would all just know and be fulfilled by our own lives rather then comparing it to something or someone else.

I’m grateful for the Leadershift session, if you ever get the chance to be a part of one or read the book – do it! Everything you’ve ever needed or desired is literally only a mindset away and this book helps that shift in mindset.
