I’m the daughter of a soldier, the sister of one too but I never imagined being the wife of one, then lo and behold, 2023, my husband got inducted in and the family commitment grows all the more.

Mind you while my family serves in two different countries, there are similarities that bind us nonetheless. Here’s the thing though, the wife of a soldier, chhhiillleee that’s new to me. The new perspectives, the new environment, the responsibilities, the adjustments, the vocabulary and don’t even get me started on the traveling, I didn’t really notice it much until I came here but wow. All I can say, how do you army wives do it?

New to the block in this role and I’m embracing it for sure. Learning as much as I can from those who have been in this space much longer and I stay in awe because wow. The prices these families, these women have paid, God has been gracious to each one indeed and I’m so grateful.

We’ve marked a month here now and I’ve met some incredible women, Fijian, British, some from African countries and there’s a beautiful understanding, a recognition and a commonality in the challenges that come with being the wives of these servicemen.

My top sentiments for women new to this too:

• Reintroduce yourself as much as you can and don’t be afraid to lean in and grow.
• Embrace this season with hope and wisdom,
• Remember what you’re here for, focus on that, heal and let bygones be bygones.
• Focus, focus, focus! (Did I say focus already?)
• You set the temperature of your home even if your husband is at the top of these ranks.

30 days went by quick and I’m excited for the adventure ahead!
