Hey sis, I did a thing last month and ccchhhhiiilllld, what a way to end the second quarter of the year! I took part in the Highland Fling – which is a whole experience for spouses of the serving members of the 39 Regiment here in the UK.
I still can’t believe I did it because gggurl! Obstacle course? Check. Putting up my own sleeping gear? Yup. Shooting a rifle for the first time? Wild. And those military rations? Actually not bad at all! Ha-ha.
The whole thing reminded me how important it is to physically challenge myself, even in seasons where I feel emotionally and mentally stretched. There was something sacred about trying something so new and owning it my own way.
But let me be real.
A few weeks after settling into our new home and starting our family rhythm here, I found myself spiralling into a weird headspace. I was watching other women – online and around me – seemingly thriving, and without even realising it, I started comparing myself.
I got lazy.
Distracted.
Scroll-heavy.
Engrossed in other people’s highlight reels.
And it hit me – this wasn’t me.
So I put the phone down, opened the Word and ccchhhhiiiilllddd…the peace that met me there? Next level frfr. God reminded me of who I am and whose I am – and suddenly, I wasn’t even fazed when I realised I was the only one from our little community that signed up for this Highland Fling.
And gurrrl, sometimes your assignment is yours alone.
When I moved here, I thought I could just add the ‘Army Wife’ title to my list of roles and keep it pushing. But nah….God had other plans. He asked me to unpack my soul, to pause, to readjust – not just adapt like we always do – but realign.
And realigning? Sis, that’s soul work.
That’s strategy.
That’s protecting what matters most.
Because adapting is surface stuff – but readjusting? That’s the type of transformation that shifts how you show up, for your children, for your husband, for your sisters in community, and most importantly – for yourself.
No, I don’t have it all together. I haven’t made a bunch of new adult friends. But what I do know is this:
I’m not comparing anymore.
Not to the version of me back in Fiji.
Not to the expectations I had of who I should be here.
Not even to how others might perceive me.
Here is new
Here is stretching.
Here calls for intentional living, soul care, and showing up with my eyes fixed on the One who called me here.
And here?
Here is good.
Here is beautiful.
Here is purpose-filled.
And I’m so, so incredibly grateful that Here is where I’m called.
Stay Blessed.
